Brumbies back Christian Lealiifano has praised his forward pack for their performance against the Highlanders as the Canberra Super Rugby franchise halted a two match losing run.
The Brumbies got their Super Rugby season back on track with a 31-18 bonus point victory over the Highlanders at GIO Stadium on Friday.
Christian Lealiifano looked comfortable in the No. 10 jersey, using his dazzling footwork and precision passing to set up a number of attacks for the home side.
David Pocock was again the standout for the Brumbies, continuing his stellar form. He was a thorn in the Highlanders side all night as he forced errors and turnovers at the breakdown as well as scoring three tries in the first half.
Lealiifano said he was happy with the victory.
“We got off to a really good start, the boys were pumped up. We trained really well during the week and it was good to get our game back on track. We’re happy with the performance and now we’ve got something to move forward on,” Lealiifano said.
Lealiifano added that he had been impressed by the forwards.
“They were unreal tonight. They stepped up big time, not only with the three rolling maul tries but just with their work rate around the park as well.”
When asked about next week’s match against the Waratahs, Lealiifano said the game was a big deal.
“It’s massive, it’s a local derby and we really need to get one back. We’ll go away and enjoy this win but then get straight into preparation because they’re a very tough side.”
The Waratahs travel to Canberra next Friday to face the Brumbies at GIO Stadium.
