Rebels and Wallabies prop Laurie Weeks continues to progress towards making his return to Super Rugby from a knee injury as he edges closer to a return to full training.
Weeks injured his knee against the Hurricanes in Wellington in Round Seven of the Super Rugby competition, however he has resumed running as he looks to play a part in at least one of the Rebels ‘ two home games against New Zealand opposition at AAMI Park early next month.
Head of Athletic Performance at the Club, Bryce Cavanagh, said Weeks was tracking well and he could make his return from a left Tibial Plateau Fracture within the next three weeks.
“It ‘s good to see Laurie out of the gym and doing some work on the training field,” Cavanagh said.
“He’s a key member of our playing group, and to see him with a big smile on his face as he started running again pleased everybody here.
“Laurie has plenty to do before he is considered for selection, but he is ahead of schedule and working hard to continue that trend.”
Cavanagh was pleased to come out of the Round Ten victory against the Brumbies without any additions to the injury list.
“It was very attritional in Canberra, in that you had two highly physical sides going at each other in wet and slippery conditions. You saw that the Brumbies unfortunately suffered a couple of injuries in that game, so for us to head back to Melbourne after a win and without any concerns was very pleasing.”
The Rebels head to Sydney on Friday ahead of the Round Eleven ANZAC Day clash with the Waratahs at ANZ Stadium on Saturday.
