Reds beat Cheetahs in Bloemfontein

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Bloemfontein based Cheetahs and the Brisbane based Reds the Brisbane side have won four and the Bloemfontein side one.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Cheetahs kick off and we are underway. Genia puts the ball into touch so there will be a line out.

1.00: The Cheetahs win the line out and use the maul. They make ground but then the Reds get the ball and kick upfield.

3.00: Curtis Browning suffers an injury and has to be helped from the field. The Cheetahs have a penalty. Pietersen takes the kick and nails it.

4.00: The Cheetahs break out as Ryno Benjamin gets into space. He is caught and passes to Francois Venter who is tackled into touch.

6.00: The Cheetahs almost get through again but they lose the ball and the Reds counter attack.

7.00: The Reds chips the ball upfield so Pietersen kicks it back. The Reds kick it back and Willie Britz has a run but the ball is taken into touch.

13.00: The Cheetahs suffer a blow as Heinrich Brussow has to come off holding his forearm. Tienie Burger comes on.

15.00: Penalty to the Reds from the scrum. They were allowed to play on with the advantage but when nothing came of it they were called back. They kick for touch and the line out.

16.00: The Reds win the line out and slip down the wing and gets to the 5m but knock on. Johann Sadie gets an indirect warning.

17.00: Will Genia is caught offside so the Cheetahs get a penalty. They kick for touch and the line out.

21.00: The Cheetahs keep showing an intent to run the ball but their handling lets them down.

23.00: The Reds win a penalty from a crushing scrum. They kick for touch and the line out. The Reds win the line out but knock on.

25.00:  Coenie van Wyk is carried off the field due to an injury. Willie du Plessis comes on.

28.00: The Cheetahs keep trying to run but the final pass lets them down. The Reds have the more powerful scrum which plays into the Reds hand as they keep winning penalties from it. Again the Reds win a penalty from the scrum and kick for touch.

31.00: The Reds win line out and work the ball into the Cheetahs 22. They get the ball to the 5m line and lose it. The Cheetahs kick for touch.

32.00: The Reds take the quick line out and kick. The Cheetahs take the mark. They take a quick tap and it deflects off another player and the Cheetahs get the ball to Ryno Benjamin who races for the line and scores. TRY!

33.00: Pietersen takes the conversion kick and nails it.

37.00: Penalty to the Reds. They kick for touch and set up a line out on the 5m line.

38.00: The Reds set up the maul. They can’t drive forward and the ball pops out the bcck. The Reds move the ball to the backs.

39.00: The Reds go through 8 phases. on attack in the Cheetahs 22. 11 phases and still they attack. Penalty to the Reds.

40.00: James O’Connor will kick for posts. He takes the shot and nails it.

43.00: The Reds get an almost perfect start as  Adam Korczyk races throuigh the Cheetahs and scores TRY!

44.00: James O’Connor slots the conversion to level the scores.

44.00: Tienie Burger and BG Uys come off for the Cheetahs.

46.00: The Reds are keeping the Cheetahs pinned back in their half.

48.00: The Reds are growing stronger in this and the Cheetahs are running out of players on the bench.

50.00: The Reds work the ball to the line and |Frisby has a go but is stopped. The Reds recycle and change direction and O’Connor slips the pass to Samu Kerevi who scores. TRY!

52.00: James O’Connor takes the conversion kick but misses. The Reds lead.

56.00: The Cheetahs win a line out. They set up the maul, they move sideways a little and then Boom Prinsloo slips through and scores. TRY !

57.00: Pietersen adds the conversion and the Cheetahs lead again.

61.00: The Reds get the ball down into the Cheetahs 22. The Cheetahs win a line out and then a penalty. They kick for touch.

63.00: Johann Sadie suffers a head knock as he collides with a Reds player going in to tackle. He gets some help from the medics but stays on.

64.00: The Reds almost get through on the wing but Turner stumbles after a ankle tap. The Reds keep the ball alive and continue the attack. They go through 8 phases and then they win a penalty for going off the feet.

66.00: James O’Connor takes the penalty shot but misses. Tian Meyer comes on for the Cheetahs.

67.00: Penalty to the Reds. Turner kicks for touch.

69.00: The Reds win the scrum but lose the ball forward in the tackle.

73.00: The Reds go through the phases (8) on the attack again gradually driving the Cheetahs back. They get to 14 phases and look like they are setting up for the drop. On the 15th phase Frisby slots the drop goal. The Reds lead.

76.00: Johann Sadie makes a break for the Cheetahs and gets them into the Reds half. Benjamin follows up in support and is tackled into touch.

78.00: The Cheetahs are throwing it all at the Reds now. They win a penalty for playing the ball on the ground. Its kickable.

79.00:Pietersen hits the post with the penalty. The Reds get the ball and kick it into touch. Thats it.
