Chiefs beat Crusaders in Chirstchurch

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Christchurch based Crusaders and the Hamilton based Chiefs the Hamilton side have won three matches and the Crusaders two.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Crusaders kick off and we are underway.

1.00: The Crusaders win the put in after an early knock on. The Scrum is a mess and has to be reset.

2.00: The Chiefs win the scrum – from Crusaders put in – and they work the ball up to the Crusaders 22.

3.00: The Crusaders turn the ball over and kick and chase but concede a penalty.

4.00: The Chiefs choose the line out which they win and Tim Nanai-Williams slips through and scores. The TMO is called in to check.  Ben Tameifuna is ruled to have obstructed Wyatt Crockett so no try is awarded. Crusaders kick for touch.

5.00: The Crusaders get an intercept and Jordan Taufua makes a 50m break for the line. The Chiefs get back and save the try but Sam Cane is yellow carded for offside – in from the side.

6.00: Daniel Carter lines up the penalty kick and  nails it. Crusaders lead.

8.00: The Chiefs win a penalty back for sealing off. Cruden lines up takes the shot and nails it. The scores are level.

11.00: Another penalty to the Crusaders. Carter takes the shot but misses.

14.00 Penalty to the Crusaders for the scrum as Tameifuna is not scrumming straight. They choose to kick for posts.

15.00: Carter lines up the kick but misses again.

17.00: Sam Cane is back on the field. The Chiefs win the ball from a scrum and Nanai-Williams races down the wing – getting the ball from a cross kick. He gets the Chiefs into the Crusaders half and they get to the 22 but are called back for a penalty. Aaron Cruden is down and is being helped by the medics on his knee. He carries on.

18.00: Tim Nanai-Williams lines up for the kick as Cruden is still recovering. He nails it and the Chiefs lead. Cruden is battling again.

20.00:Andrew Horrell comes on for Aaron Cruden. The Chiefs win the ball from a line out. They pass the ball down the line and go from side to side but then lose the ball forward. The Crusaders play on but lose the ball (McCaw lost it forward) and Michael Leitch pounces on it and scores. TRY!

21.00: Horrell bangs over the conversion.

23.00: The Chiefs press the Crusaders back to their 5m line. They put the pressure on but then Michael Leitch concedes a penalty. The Crusaders kick for touch and the line out.

24.00: The line out is scrappy and the Chiefs come away with the ball. Charlie Ngatai kicks for touch but it goes out on the full.

25.00: The Crusaders concede a penalty for offside. Horrell decides to kick for touch.

26.00: Both sides compete for the line out and the Chiefs knock on.

28.00: The Chiefs win their line out – after both sides knock on. The Crusaders then steal the ball back and Tameifuna concedes a penalty. Read says they will kick for posts.

29.00: Dan Carter lines up the penalty kick and this one he misses as well. Three misses in a row. The Chiefs keep the ball alive but then the Crusaders turn it over and attack.

30.00: The Crusaders passing is poor and the ball goes to ground and then out.

34.00: The Crusaders look like they are starting to wake up. They get the ball to the Chiefs 5m line and force a knock on giving them a 5m scrum.

35.00: Penalty to the Crusaders from the scrum before they even get the ball in. Carter will take a shot at the posts.

36.00: Carter takes the shot and he nails it.

39.00: Penalty to the Crusaders just inside their half. They kick for touch and the line out.

40.00: Crusaders win the line out and run at the Chiefs as the siren sounds. The Chiefs however turn the ball over and James Lowe races away down the wing and scores. TRY!

41.00: Horrell takes the conversion kick from outwide. He misses.

The Chiefs kick off and we are underway with the second half.

41.00: The Chiefs knock on after the kick off so the Crusaders have a scrum. They win the scrum and run the ball. They get caught so they kick.

42.00; Both sides kick the ball away and then Tom Taylor makes a break and passes to Ben Funnell and the Crusaders win a penalty in front.

43.00: Carter slots the penalty.

45.00:Nepo Laulala is replaced by Owen Franks. He almost immediately makes an impact by winning the ball at a line out and attacking.

46.00: The Crusaders are trying to get their game going but the Chiefs are containing them.

47.00: The Crusaders push the Chiefs back and Carter kicks behind Nanai-Williams who has to scramble and dot the ball down behind the try line.

48.00: The Crusaders win the scrum but Nanai-Williams is up in defence so quickly he wins a penalty for the Chiefs. They kick for touch.

54.00: Penalty to the Chiefs. Horrell takes the kick but misses.

55.00: The Chiefs have the ball. They pick and go at the Crusaders but then they pass the ball back and hits the ref square on his nose. Luke Romano comes off and is replaced by Jimmy Tupou.

58.00: Penalty to the Chiefs from the scrum. Horrell takes the kick and nails it extending the Chiefs lead.

61.00: The TMO comes in for a tackle by Hika Elliot on Kieran Read for a tackle. It turns out to be nothing.

64.00: The Crusaders are struggling to keep the ball in hand and the game has slowed to an arm wrestle.

66.00: The Chiefs win a line out and Sonny Bill Williams slips a pass out to Charlie Ngatai who races through the Crusaders. He is caught and the Crusaders kick for touch but the ball goes into touch.

67.00: Andy Ellis comes off and Mitchell Drummond comes on. The crowd cheers.

69.00: Penalty to the Chiefs – Sam Cane wins it. It’s in their half so James Lowe  kicks for touch. The Crusaders are still without a try.

70.00: Wyatt Crockett comes off and is replaced by Joe Moody. The Chiefs have to scramble on defence after a ball fumble.  Carter fails to find touch and Tom Marshall and Nanai-Williams slips through the defence and Liam Squire scores. TRY!

71.00: Andrew Horrell takes the conversion and misses.

74.00: The Crusaders continue to bang away at the Chiefs but they can’t get through.

78.00: The Crusaders are not giving up but their handling is letting them down. They knock on.

78.00: Penalty to the Chiefs from the scrum. They kick for touch.

79.00: The Crusaders win the ball from the line out. They try to run the ball but are called back for a penalty. They run it.

80.00: The siren sounds. The Crusaders try to attack but the Chiefs win a penalty. Messam runs it. The Crusaders get an intercept but the Chiefs catch them and turn the ball over.

81.00: The Chiefs try to attack from their 22. The ball is lost and rolls into touch.
