Brumbies beat Cheetahs in Canberra

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Canberra based Brumbies and the Bloemfontein based Cheetahs the Brumbies have won three and the Cheetahs two.

We are waiting for the kick off.

Matt Toomua kicks off and we are underway.

The Cheetahs win a penalty straight away so they kick for touch.

2.00: Nic White sets up a Brumbies line out in the Cheetahs 22.

3.00: The Brumbies win the line out and they move the ball out to the backs. Christian Lealiifano bumps off a weak tackle from Joe Pietersen and goes in to score. TRY!

4.00: Lealiifano adds the conversion to his try.

6.00: The Brumbies almost get through the Cheetahs defence again as Scott Sio makes a charging run but gets caught. The Brumbies keep the ball alive and go to the side but the Cheetahs keep them out.

9.00: David Pocock almost get through but he is stopped. The Brumbies are finding holes.

11.00: Penalty to the Brumbies. White kicks for the corner.

13.00: The Brumbies work the ball to the line and Matt Toomua goes over. We go to the TMO to check if there was double movement and grounding. Instead of a try a penalty for double movement is awarded. Ref said he should have placed the ball – although it looked like he did. Cheetahs kick for touch.

16.00: Penalty to the Cheetahs. Pietersen takes the kick and nails it. the Cheetahs are on the board.

20.00: Tian Meyer comes off for the Cheetahs – blood bin as Christian Lealiifano takes a shot at goal for a penalty. He nails it.

24.00: The Cheetahs get into the Brumbies 22 for the first time. They are awarded a penalty so they choose to kick for the corner instead of going for posts. 5m line out.

29.00: The Brumbies work the ball down field. They almost get to the line but on the sixth phase the Cheetahs push them into touch.

34.00: The Brumbies continue to attack the Cheetahs but the visiting side continue to hold them out.

36.00: The Cheetahs win a scrum and run the ball but knock on. Brumbies scrum.

38.00: The Brumbies win the scrum and Henry Speight chases a Nic White kick and comes within inches of scoring but the support can’t get to him. He injures himself in the process.

43.00: The Brumbies come close to scoring in the corner but James Dargaville gets a foot in touch.

44.00: The Brumbies win a line out and drive over the line. They are held up so they go again and drive again. This time  Blake Enever scores. TRY!

46.00: Lealiifano slots the conversion.

51.00: The game is lacking “spark” and both teams look a little subdued.

55.00: Stephen Moore comes off and is replaced by Josh Mann-Rea.

56.00: High tackle by the Cheetahs – Sadie on Lealiifano. Nic White kicks for the corner.

57.00: The Brumbies win the line out and use the maul. It disintegrates and then reforms. The Brumbies get to the line but stop. They don’t “use it” so the have a scrum.

59.00; The Brumbies get the ball to Speight but as he goes to score he loses the ball forward.

65.00: The Cheetahs work the ball upfield into the Brumbies 22. They win a penalty and run it.

67.00:  The Cheetahs attack on the right but can’t get through. They change sides but again can’t get through. They are called back for a high tackle and a penalty.

69.00: The Cheetahs kick for the corner and the line out. They win the line out and Brussow loses the ball so the Brumbies kick for touch.

72.00: The Cheetahs have been in the Brumbies half for the last 8 minutes. They win a line out and attack but can’t get into the Brumbies 22.

73.00: Penalty to the Cheetahs for leaving the feet. They kick for the corner.

76.00: The Cheetahs are doing most of the playing in this final quarter. They win a line out and attack again but cannot get into the Brumbies 22.

78.00: The Brumbies get the ball into Cheetahs territory but knock on.

80.00: The siren sounds but we have time for the scrum. The Cheetahs attack but the ball is kicked into touch.
