Bulls to rest Matfield and Serfontein against Lions

The Bulls will be without Victor Matfield and Jan Serfontein for this week’s match against the Lions at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.

Both Matfield and Serfontein are being rested due to the agreement the SA Super Rugby teams have with the South African Rugby Union.

Matfield is a key player for the Bulls and the Springboks ahead of this year’s Rugby World Cup.

While Matfield is officially being rested to comply with the SARU agreement reports have surfaced that Matfield is actually injured and could be out for some time.

Matfield is understood to have injured his knee playing against the Crusaders at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

“He has a stiff knee, nothing too serious but we will make a decision later on in the week,” Dr Strauss told SuperSport.

There are concerns that Matfield could miss up to a month of Super Rugby.
