Sharks beat the Western Force in Durban

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Durban based Sharks and the Perth based Western Force the Sharks have won five.

We are waiting for the kick off.

Frans Steyn of the Sharks kicks off and we are underway.

1.00: The Sharks make a powerful start as they go through 7 phases in the Force’s 22. Lots of big crunches.

2.00: Injury break as Marcel Brache comes off for a concussion test.

3.00: The game resumes with a scrum which the Sharks win. They also win a penalty as 15 blue (Luke Morahan) is offside.

4.00: Frans Steyn lines up for the penalty kick but misses.

8.00: Penalty from the scrum to the Force. Sias Ebersohn lines up the kick but he too misses.

12.00:Penalty to the Sharks. Steyn kicks for touch.

13.00: The Sharks win the line out and Steyn goes for a drop goal but he is well off.

15.00: The Force win a line out on their 5m line. They initially run it and then decide to kick for touch.

16.00: The Force go through 6 phases on the attack and then they have to kick. The ball goes to Lwazi Mvovo who slices it into touch.

19.00; Penalty to the Force as Conrad Hoffmann is offside. Ebersohn will kick for the corner.

21.00: The Sharks come away with the ball from the line out so the Force wasted that opportunity.

22.00: Steyn kicks upfield and the Sharks chase. The Sharks concede a penalty. Ebersohn kicks for touch but doesn’t find it. The Sharks counter attack.

23.00: Mvovo races down the wing but is shoved into touch, the Sharks change sides but they are pushed into touch on the other side.

24.00: The Force win the line out and Enersohn kicks for touch. Steyn gets the ball and slices it into touch – the Force effectively make half the field.

26.00: Jannie du Plessis concedes a penalty for changing his bind. The Force kick for touch.

28.00: The Force win the line out and use the maul. They go wide to the backs and Morahan almost goes over in the corner but he passes to Hoffman who is bungled into touch.

29.00: Ben McCalman looks to have scored a try. We go to the TMO and the pictures appear to show that the try has been scored as the ball touched the line. The try is not awarded for some reason which no one understands (including the TV commentators) and the Force have a penalty. Ebersohn slots the penalty.

32.00: Ebersohn tries to clear the ball with a kick but he hits Nathan Charles in the back of his head and Charles goes down. He goes off for a concussion test.

34.00: The Force go through 10 phases and work the ball to the 5m line. They get to 13 phases and then they go wide. 15 phases. 16 phases.

36.00: The Force lose the ball forward but there was an advantage so they have a penalty. The Sharks get a warning for discipline.

37.00: Ebersohn slots the penalty. Charles is back on.

39.00: Kane Koteka makes a break and as he slips through a double tackle Jannie du Plessis and Jean Deysel appear to knock each other out. Both players will have concussion tests in the break. Koteka was caught and he knocks on.

40.00: The Sharks win the scrum and as the siren sounds they kick the ball out.

The Force kick off for the second half as the rain comes down.

42.00: The Sharks win the ball from a scrum and Ndungane races down the wing, he is caught but the Sharks keep the ball alive and SP Marais races for the tryline and scores. TRY!

43.00; Steyn misses the conversion.

45.00: Sam Wykes comes off for a concussion test.

48.00:The Force win a scrum and they run the ball into the Sharks 22.They use the boot and SP Marais chases and kicks it into touch.

51.0: Sam Wykes has been told he will not be able to come back on after failing the concussion test. Wilhelm Steenkamp will remain as Force captain.

55.00: Both sides kicking the ball a lot without any real gain.

58.00: The Sharks use a combination of kicking and running but the Force turn the ball over and kick the ball back.

59.00: Ndungane has a run but loses the ball.

62.00: Penalty for illegal binding in the scrum to the Sharks. Fred Zeilinga takes the kick and the Sharks lead for the first time.

66.00: The Force win a penalty in front. Sias Ebersohn takes the kick but misses.

67.00: SP Marais makes a break and passes to Lwazi Movovo who races down the wing and scores. TRY!

68.00: Zelinga slots the conversion.

72.00; The Force work the ball to the Sharks tryline and Steve Mafi reaches over to score. We go to the TMO to check for obstruction. No try as Ben McCalman took a player out. The Sharks get a penalty.

75.00: The Sharks win another penalty. Zeilinga takes the shot but misses.

77.00: The Force are not done yet. They work the ball into the Sharks 22. The Sharks try to drive them into touch but the Force keep the ball in play and change sides.

78.00: After 12 phases Chris Heiberg has a run but they keep the ball alive and Kyle Godwin goes for the line and loses the ball.

79.00: The Force win a line out and then a penalty. They will kick for posts as they could get the bonus point.

80.40 : Burton takes the kick and nails it. The Force get a bonus point.
