Chiefs beat Cheetahs in Hamilton

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Hamilton based Chiefs and the Bloemfontein based Cheetahs the Chiefs have won three matches and there have been two draws.

Match detail

We are waiting for the kick off.

Aaron Cruden kicks off and we are underway.

1.00: The Chiefs win the ball back after the start. They go through 10 phases and Sonny Bill Williams gets them over the gain line and Michael Leith scores. TRY!

2.00: Cruden adds the conversion.

5.00: The Chiefs concede a penalty for illegal wheeling of the scrum. Pietersen kicks for touch and the line out.

6.00: The Chiefs win the line out and use the maul to make about 20m. They get to the 5m line and they win a penalty for not rolling away. They will kick for posts.

7.00: Pietersen slots the penalty.

9.00: The Cheetahs win a line out and run the ball into the Chiefs half. They win another penalty so Pietersen will kick for posts.

10.00: Pietersen takes the kick and nails it.

12.00:The Chiefs run the ball at the Cheetahs. They make ground and Cruden kicks a grubber across and the ball goes into touch.

13.00: The Cheetahs win the line out and run the ball out of their 22. They get the ball deep into Chiefs territory but take it into touch.

14.00: The Chiefs win the line out but the Chiefs take it back into touch. The Chiefs take a quick line out and they don’t throw in 5m so we have a scrum.

15.00: The Cheetahs win the scrum and kick high. The Chiefs win the ball and kick upfield and the Cheetahs get to it and kick the ball into touch. Injury break.

17.00: The Chiefs win a line out and look like they set up a ruck but Liam Messam goes straight through and races for the line and scores. TRY!

19.00: Cruden adds the conversion.

21.00; The Chiefs do a lot of running but lose ground. The Cheetahs turn the ball over and Cornal Hendricks has a run and makes about 20m. The Chiefs win a penalty and they kick for touch.

23.00: The Chiefs concede a penalty again and they get a warning.They kick for touch. The Chiefs win the line out set up a ruck 5m out.

24.00:Michael Fitzgerald is shown a yellow card for tackling a support player. The Cheetahs kick for touch. The Chiefs steal the line out and run it well into Cheetahs territory.

25.00: Another penalty for joining the ruck incorrectly. They kick for touch but they don’t find it. The Chiefs kick for touch.

27.00: Another warning for side entry. Pietersen will kick for touch.

The Cheetahs win the line out. The Chiefs don’t engage. The Cheetahs set up the maul and they drive to the line and score. Easy TRY! Technically the ball was passed forward to Boom Prinsloo so the try should not have been given that as he was offside.

28.00: Pietersen adds the conversion.

31.00: Another penalty to the Cheetahs. They kick for touch.

32.00:  Ben Tameifuna sacks a maul and is yellow carded.

33.00: The Cheetahs win a line out and kick for the wings. The Chiefs get the ball but have to dot it down in the dead zone. 5m scrum.

34.00: The Chiefs win a penalty from the scrum. Fitzgerald comes back on as the Cheetahs call for another scrum.

35.00: The Cheetahs scrum disintegrates and they concede a free kick. Cruden kicks for touch.

37.00: Penalty to the Chiefs. Thats 11 to the Cheetahs and 2 to the Chiefs. They kick for touch.

38.00:The Cheetahs turn the ball over after the line out and attack. They decide to kick and the Chiefs kick it back into touch.

39.00: The Chiefs win the ball from a mark. They run the ball but the Cheetahs get it and Raymond Rhule has a run but is just caught by Damien McKenzie who knocks on as the siren sounds.

40.00: The Cheetahs win the scrum but they lose the ball. We go back for a penalty. Pietersen will kick for touch.

42.00: Pietersen misses the kick.

4.00: The Cheetahs kick off and we are underway. Tameifuna is back on.

41.00: Sam Cane loses the ball forward giving a scrum to the Cheetahs.

42.00: Scrum penalty to the Chiefs – front row angling in. They kick for touch.

43.00: The Chiefs win the line out and use the maul. They concede a penalty as they lost their bind.

44.00: Penalty to the Chiefs from the scrum again. Cruden will kick for posts.

45.00: Cruden takes the shot and nails it.

47.00: The Chiefs break out from inside their 22. They get the ball to the 5m line but the Cheetahs turn the ball over and kick for touch. Chiefs looked dangerous there.

51.00: Penalty from the scrum again to the Chiefs. Cruden lines up the posts.

52.00: Cruden takes the kick and nails it.

53.00: The Chiefs try to kick out of their 22. The ball is charged down. Cruden gets the ball but loses it and Heinrich Brussow gathers the ball and scores.

54.00:Pietersen slots the conversion and the scores are level.

57.00: The Chiefs go through about 10 phases of attack and they get to the 5m line but they lose the ball. Chiefs are starting to find holes. Injury break.

59.00: The Chiefs win a penalty from the scrum again. Cruden will kick for posts. He nails it.

61.00: The Cheetahs win a penalty. They kick for touch and the line out.

62.00: The line out is overthrown and the Chiefs get the ball and run at the Cheetahs.

64.00: The Chiefs blow a certain try as they lose the ball with an ovelap 5m out. Willie Britz comes off.

65.00: The Chiefs win the scrum. They put the Chiefs line under pressure but then Heinrich Brussow is yellow carded for a professional foul. Penalty to the Chiefs.

68.00:The Chiefs win the scrum and Sam Cane slips through hole and scores. TRY!

69.00: Cruden takes the conversion and nails it.

73.00: The Chiefs are running the ball a lot more now as they need the bonus point try.

75.00:The Chiefs win a scrum and Augustine Pulu breaks through the Cheetahs defence and he passes to Andrew Horrell who has just come on and scores. TRY!

76.00: Cruden takes the conversion kick and nails it.

79.00: Side entry at the ruck so the Cheetahs have a penalty.  They choose the line out. They win the line out and use the maul.

80.00: The siren sounds but we have another penalty. The Cheetahs take it quickly and Brussow scores. TRY!

Willie du Plessis takes the conversion and hits the post and it goes in off.
