Cheetahs lock De Jager gets good news on injury

Lood de Jager has been named in the Cheetahs pre-season training squad

Cheetahs lock Lood de Jager has been given some good news as his injury is not as bad as it was first thought.

De Jager was forced to leave the field in the first half of the Cheetahs 29-35 Super Rugby victory over the Sharks on Saturday.

It was first thought that he had broken his elbow but X-rays on Monday have revealed that he has not broken it.

De Jager did however injure the ligaments in his elbow so the injury will not keep him out for as long as initally suspected.

The Cheetahs now expect that they will be without De Jager for between six to eight weeks of Super Rugby.

The Bloemfontein based Cheetahs have a bye this weekend so they have time to reshuffle their pack before next week’s match at home.

The Cheetahs host the Blues in Bloemfontein next weekend (Rd.3) and its likely that Carl Wegner will start after he came on as De Jager’s replacement against the Sharks.
