Former Sharks and Southern Kings lock Steven Sykes has joined the Cheetahs squad preparing for the start of the Super Rugby tournament.
Netwerk24 in South Africa say that it is not clear whether Sykes has signed a contract with the Cheetahs or if he is just training in Bloemfontein on a trial basis.
If Sykes joins the Cheetahs squad officially he will battle for selection with Lood de Jager, Francois Uys, Carl Wegner and Armandt Koster.
Sykes played for the Sharks between 2005 and 2012 and also had a stint with Irish club Leinster in 2011.
In 2013 Sykes played for the EP and Southern Kings.
Former Springbok Hilton Lobberts is struggling with a knee injury and is it unclear whether he will be able to play Super Rugby in 2015 so Sykes could be a replacement.
