Stormers get boost for Bulls Super Rugby opener

The Stormers have been given a boost for their Super Rugby opening match against the Bulls as a number of players have recovered from injuries and will be available for selection.

Lock Ruan Botha (ankle), loose forward Nizaam Carr (viral infection) and inside centre Damian de Allende (slight quadriceps tear) are all back from their injuries and will be in selection contention for this Saturday’s match in Pretoria.

However winger Kobus van Wyk is an injury and flanker Siya Kolisi will not be risked this weekend against the Bulls.

Kolisi is taking part in limited training and while he is looking good the Stormers don’t expect to risk him.

As reported last week lock Manuel Carizza (shoulder) is still out for another two weeks

Bok lock Eben Etzebeth (chest) is on track and is a week into his four-week lay-off while Prop Frans Malherbe (ankle) is back at full training and is ahead of schedule so he could come into selection contention in two weeks’ time.

In other news Wing Willy Ambaka has joined team training this week after his rehabilitation from a long-term leg injury and fullback/inside centre Jaco Taute (knee) is a week into his six-week lay-off after undergoing a scope last week.

The Stormers play the Bulls away this weekend and then return home to Cape Town where they will host New Zealand Super Rugby side the Blues at Newlands.
