Rebels name squad to play Highlanders trial match

Melbourne Rebels’ Head Coach Tony McGahan has named a 26 strong squad for the club’s Super Rugby warm up match against the Highlanders at Harlequin Rugby Club on Thursday.

Head Coach Tony McGahan said he was looking forward to the Club’s second trial game, against strong opposition.

McGahan has named Lopeti Timani to play in his first match this pre-season while new signing en Whittaker will make his first appearance for the Club,

“The Highlanders are a very good team, as shown by their qualification for the Super Rugby finals in 2014 and their strong pre-season results thus far,” McGahan said. “

This fixture is a great way to ramp up our preparations for the 2015 Super Rugby competition, by testing ourselves against quality opponents.

McGahan shared the enthusiasm bubbling within the Victorian Rugby community as the Rebels take a trial game to a Victorian Club Rugby ground for the first time.

“We are thrilled to be able to utilise the facilities at Harlequin Rugby Club and take this free Super Rugby trial into the suburbs, and I encourage all Victorian Rugby fans to get out and support us; it really means a lot,” he said.
