Scotland lose Maitland & Denton for 6N openers

Scotland will be without David Denton and Sean Maitland for the opening matches of the 2015 Six Nations championship through injury.

The pair sustained calf and shoulder injuries respectively in the weekend’s European Cup action and have subsequently been ruled out of contention for the start of the international campaign.

Denton left Scotland’s training camp at Ravenscraig, Motherwell, yesterday (Monday) for a scan at Spire Murrayfield Hospital in Edinburgh, which confirmed he had sustained a tear to his calf in Edinburgh Rugby’s win over Bordeaux.

Glasgow Warriors wing/full-back Maitland also had a specialist scan yesterday, at the BMI Ross Hall Hospital in Glasgow, which showed damage to his shoulder.

Both players have returned to the care of their clubs’ medical teams, where they will receive further care and assessment, with the view to competing for selection later in the championship.
