Sharks get double Super Rugby injury boost

Durban based Super Rugby franchise the Sharks have been given a boost ahead of the 2015 Super Rugby season with the return of Springboks Pieter-Steph du Toit and Willem Alberts.

Both Springboks have returned to training with the Sharks after injury kept them out for much of last season.

Second rower Du Toit missed much of the 2014 Super Rugby season while loose forward Alberts had to have an operation on his back in July last year.

Both players have resumed training and according to Netwerk24 neither of them have shown signs of discomfort from their injuries.

“I have no discomfort and it is good to be back at practice again with the guys after the frustration of last year,” Alberts told Netwerk24.

While the Springbok duo have brought good news for the Sharks there is not so good news for lock Stephan Lewies who is expected to remain on the sidelines for an extended period due to an injury.

Paul Jordaan has also still recovering from a leg fracture and is not expected to train with the Sharks until April.

The Sharks have appointed Gary Gold as their new Director of Rugby for this season but he is still fulfilling his commitments in Japan so in the interim former coach Brendan Venter has taken charge of training.

Venter is being assisted by the Currie Cup coaching team of Brad MacLeod-Henderson, Sean Everitt and Paul Anthony.

The Sharks have planned a training game against a team made up of a number of Durban clubs in two weeks before they travel to France to play French Top14 and Heineken Cup champions Toulon on February 5th.

The Sharks start their 2015 Super Rugby season at home in Durban against the Cheetahs on Valentine’s day the 14th of February.
