All Black centre Conrad Smith is expected to miss this week’s Test match against Scotland on Saturday so that he can return to New Zealand for a family matter.
All Black coach Steve Hansen did not reveal why Smith, who became a father earlier this year in August, would be returning home and missing the Test in Edinburgh.
Smith is expected to return to Europe and rejoin the squad in time to play for Wales on November 22.
“It’s not overly serious but it’s serious enough for him to have to go home,” Hansen told the NZHerald
“Everyone is healthy which is great but obviously it’s a personal matter so I can’t answer any more questions on it.”
Lock Brodie Retallick is also expected to miss the Scotland Test after he injured his shoulder in the All Blacks 21-24 victory over England.
