Bonus point Sale Sharks blow London Welsh away

Sale Sharks secured their first bonus point victory of the Aviva Premiership season when they beat London Welsh 46-8 at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Sale had the better of the ball in the first-half and scored two tries through
Tom Arscott and Vadim Cobilas before Danny Cipriani added a penalty on the stroke
of half time, with the Exiles’ only score coming from the boot of Olly Barkley.

Welsh got themselves back into the game with a try through Nic Reynolds but
a second try from Arscott put the game beyond the visitors.

The hosts secured a bonus point with a fourth try through Tom Brady with five
minutes to go before adding two more through Arscott and Luke McLean.

Sale took full advantage of Piri Weepu’s box kick going out on the full as
former Welsh man Arscott went over in the corner to give the hosts 5-0 lead
after three minutes.

The Sharks dominated the opening 10 minutes before conceding a penalty for
offside which Barkley successfully kicked to goal to close the gap.

Sale scored their second try of the game after 23 minutes through Cobilas.
A pick and go paved the way for the prop to dive over before Cipriani added
the extras.

The hosts looked like scoring their third try of the half after good work from
Easter and Arscott but the TMO ruled the try out for a knock-on in the build-up.

Another error was made by Dean Schofield as he dragged down the maul to send
Welsh down to 14 with a minute left to play in the first half before Cipriani
scored the penalty to take a 15-3 lead into the break.

Sale picked up where they left off in the second half with another Cipriani
penalty to go 18-3 up.

Welsh came close to scoring their first try of the game with a rolling maul
but as they edged towards the line, Sale managed to get it into touch to maintain
their advantage.

The visitors had got a foot in the game after the return of Schofield and got
their reward just shy of the hour mark as Reynolds went over in the corner but
Sale looked to have sealed the win with 13 minutes remaining as Arscott scored
his second try of the afternoon with Cipriani converting once more.

The hosts secured a bonus point with five minutes to play as Brady went over
in the corner and Cipriani converted to take a 32-8 lead before running in two
more tries in the dying minutes.

Arscott got his hat-trick and Joe Ford converted before McLean scored and Ford
again added the extras secure a 46-8 win.
