Former All Black Guildford sidelined after attack

Former All Black winger Zac Guildford is set to be on the sidelines for up to three weeks after being attacked in France.

According to reports Guildford was attacked by three men when he was out getting a kebab with Welsh international Jonathan Davies and was kicked in the face which has left him with a damaged jaw.

Guildford, Davies and some others who also play for Clermont had been out celebrating lock Jamie Cudmore’s birthday as well as the birth of fly-half Camille Lopez’s son.

The incident happened hours after Clermont beat Racing Metro 32-6 in the Top 14.

Guildford has a history with alcohol related problems which led to his release from his contract with the New Zealand Rugby Union and the Crusaders.

“In this incident, he (Guildford) is the victim,” Clermont’s sporting director Jean-Marc Lhermet told La Montagne.

“There has been absolutely no reason to reproach him since his arrival. His integration is going well.”

The attacks come just six weeks after Aurelien Rougerie, Benjamin Kayser and Julien Pierre were attacked after attending a late night venue in Millau.
