Read ‘extremely satisfied’ with Crusaders victory

Crusaders captain Kieran Read says that he was really pleased with his team’s performance in their Super Rugby Semi-final victory over the Sharks.

The Crusaders 38-6 victory made up for the Christchurch side’s loss earlier this year in May when the Sharks beat them 25-30 and played with 14 men for much of the match.

In that match the Sharks outscored the Crusaders by three tries to one but in the Semi-final the Crusaders were a very different side as they outscored the Sharks by five tries to none.

Leading 16-6 at half time the Crusaders pulled away from the Sharks in the second half by scoring four tries whilst also keeping the Sharks scoreless.

“I’m extremely satisfied,” said Read after the match.

“Knowing that we’re going to the big stage next weekend is an awesome feeling and I’m really pleased about the performance out there tonight.

“We started really well and we were able to put a bit of pressure on them early.”

“We played a pretty high tempo early that set the scene and sometimes when you travel it’s hard to adjust and we actually caught them early.”

The Crusaders will meet the Waratahs at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Saturday. The Crusaders beat the Waratahs in the 2005 and 2008 Super Rugby finals but in both matches the Crusaders were at home.
