Bulls tighthead prop Frik Kirsten has been told by doctors to retire from playing rugby due to a neck injury.
Twenty-five-year-old Kirsten has been on the sidelines since March after he injured his neck playing Super Rugby for the Bulls.
Beeld newspaper says that the injury is so serious that doctors have told Kirsten never to play rugby again.
Despite the advice from Doctors Kirsten’s father Barend says that it is still uncertain as to whether or not his son will play rugby again.
“Fusion surgery will have to be 100% successful for him to stand any chance of playing again,” Barend Kirsten told Beeld.
Kirsten will make a decision in October about his future when he has a follow up scan.
