Crotty: Crusaders are building momentum nicely

Crusaders centre Ryan Crotty feels that they are building momentum as they head into the Super Rugby play offs.

The Crusaders have now won four out of their last five matches and have won the New Zealand Conference by beating the Highlanders 34-8.

The Crusaders will get next week off unless the Sharks can beat the Stormers in Cape Town by 35 points with a bonus point.

“We talked about being able to take momentum into the playoffs,” said Crusaders captain Crotty.

“We had a stuff-up against the Hurricanes a couple of weeks ago, but we’ve had a couple of good wins over the Blues and the Highlanders, which gives us that momentum going into the finals.

The Crusaders outscored the Highlanders by four tries to one in their final regular season match and secured their 11th win of the season.

Crotty said that the mood in the camp has been good since they returned from the June International break and that the players have had an “edge”.

“It’s been a good couple of weeks. The boys have had that edge in training.”

“We’ve talked a lot about preparing generally and the guys feel pretty excited about what they can achieve.”

The Crusaders are Super Rugby’s most succesful franchise having won seven titles but they have not won a title since 2008 when they beat the Waratahs in the final.
