Lions beat Cheetahs in Johannesburg

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Johannesburg based Lions and the Bloemfontein based Cheetahs the Lions have won three and the Cheetahs two.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Cheetahs kick off and we are underway.

1.00: The Lions kick the ball straight back into touch. The Cheetahs win the line out and attack.

2.00: Cornal Hendricks makes a break down the wing but he is caught.

3.00; Anthony Volmink  has a run for the Lions but he knocks on in the Lions 22.

5.00: Penalty to the Cheetahs. Johan Goosen takes the kick and nails it.

8.00: The Lions win a penalty back. Elton Jantjies takes the shot and nails it.

11.00: The Cheetahs work the ball into the Lions 22. They put the Lions back to their 5m line. Philip van der Walt tries to run forward but loses the ball.

12.00: There is a break in play as Coenie Oosthuizen gets some help from the medics. He carries on.

13.00: The Lions win a penalty from the scrum so they kick for touch.

15.00: Cornal Hendricks tries to run with the ball but knocks on.

16.00: The Cheetahs win the scrum and they move the ball out to the wing. Willie le Roux sets up Raymond Rhule who makes ground and then passes back to Le Roux who scores. TRY!

17.00: Goosen takes the conversion shot and nails it.

19.00: Penalty to the Lions for a high tackle. Jantjies takes the kick and slots it.

21.00: The Lions win a penalty after Coenie Oosthuizen infringes again. Jantjies kicks for touch.

23.00: The Lions win the line out and use the maul. The maul breaks up and the Lions move the ball to the backs. They go down the line and Lionel Mapoe goes over to score. The TMO is called in to check the try but in the meantime Philip van der Walt is yellow carded. The TRY is awarded.

23.00: Jantjies takes the conversion kick and nails it.

26.00: Penalty to the Cheetahs. Goosen takes the shot and nails it to level the scores.

28.00: Penalty to the Lions. They kick for touch and then win the line out. They try to make ground in the Cheetahs 22 but they knock on.

29.00: The Lions go through a series of phases on attack but the final bounce of the ball from a Jaco Kriel chip kick bounces unfavourably and goes out.

30.00: The Lions continue the attack and they get to 5m out and Ross Cronje slips through a gap and scores. TRY !

31.00: Jantjies adds the conversion.

33.00: The Lions split the Cheetahs defence and even though the passing is poor and behind players the Lions recover and Lionel Mapoe gets into space and races in for his second TRY!

34.00: Jantjies takes the kick and nails it. Van der Walt is back on the field.

35.00: Warwick Tecklenburg splits the Cheetahs defence but when he is caught the pass goes forward and is lost by Alwyn Hollenbach .

40.00: The siren sounds for half time but the Cheetahs play on.

41.00: The Cheetahs get the ball into the Lions 22. They continue to press forward and get to the 5m line. The Cheetahs win a penalty. They take the quick tap.

41.00:Another penalty and the Cheetahs go again.  Teboho Mohoje loses the ball but Eltjon Jantjies is yellow carded for throwing the ball away.

42.00: The Cheetahs run the ball and they go wide but they are forced out into touch.

Its half time.

The Lions kick off and we are underway.

The Lions kick the ball out from the restart so the Cheetahs have a line out.

41.00: The Lions knock on at the line out so the Cheetahs have a scrum. They win the scrum and run at the Lions.

42.00: The Cheetahs go from side to side on attack but they knock on so we go back for a penalty.

44.00: The Cheetahs get the ball in the Lions 22. They spread the bal
