Mealamu : Blues were not accurate enough

Blues hooker Keven Mealamu said that they were not accurate enough in their 21-13 loss to the Crusaders.

While the Crusaders scored two well worked tries the Blues only try came from an intercept pass by winger Frank Halai.

The Blues enjoyed no shortage of possession and territory but were kept scoreless in the second half.

Mealamu, who was playing in his 150th Super Rugby match, said that the Blues put the effort in but a couple of mistakes let them down.

“I definitely think the energy and the effort was there but when you’re playing a class side like the Crusaders it’s about accuracy as well,” said Mealamu .

“We made a couple of mistakes that let the pressure off. Against a class side like the Crusaders it’s not good enough.”

The Blues needed to beat the Crusaders to stay in contention for the play offs but as they failed to take any points in the standings from the match they only have a mathematical chance of progressing with one round remaining.

The Blues will be at home in Auckland next week where they will face a Chiefs side that showed that they cannot be written off having beaten the Hurricanes 24-16 in Hamilton.
