Waratahs beat Highlanders in Sydney

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Waratahs and the Highlanders the Waratahs have won three and the Highlanders two.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Highlanders kick off and we are underway.

1.00: There is a bit of kicking from both teams early on and the Highlanders are caught offside in front of the kicker so the Waratahs have a penalty.

2.00: Bernard Foley takes the kick and nails it. The Waratahs lead.

4.00: The Highlanders throw in a poor so the Waratahs get the ball but then they knock on.

5.00: The Highlanders win their scrum and start to move the ball forward but then they give away a penalty. Foley kicks for touch.

6.00: The Waratahs win the line out but then as they get to the other side the Highlanders win a penalty for going off the feet. They kick for touch. The Highlanders win the line out but the ball is turned over and then Foley loses the ball forward.

8.00: The Highlanders win their scrum but they knock on after a couple of passes. Conditions are perfect so it must be early nerves causing the knock ons.

11.00: Both teams showing great willingness to run the ball. The Highlanders try to attack but Malakai Fekitoa loses the ball in the tackle.

12.00: Stephen Hoiles makes a break for the Waratahs and they get the Highlanders on the backfoot. Hoiles is caught but the Tahs keep the ball alive and Rob Horne slips through a gap and scores the opening TRY! Aaron Smith is also sent to the sin-bin for a professional foul.

13.00: Foley misses the conversion.

17.00: Ged Robinson comes on for the Highlanders replacing Brayden Mitchell who comes off for a concussion test but also has a shoulder problem.

19.00: Penalty to the Highlanders just before the half way line. They consider going for posts. They eventually decide that Lima Sopoaga will take the shot.

20.00: Sopoaga’s kick is just short. Mitchell has failed the concussion test so Robinson will stay on.

22.00: The Highlanders win another penalty but this one is in front and just outside the 22m line. Sopoaga takes the shot nails it and the Highlanders are on the board.

23.00; Aaron Smith is back on. The Highlanders failed to add any score in his absence.

25.00: Lima Sopoaga kicks for territory but the ball goes out on the full.

26.00: The Waratahs get the ball and work it into the Highlanders 22, they look dangerous but then the Highlanders turn the ball over and eventually kick it out.

28.00: Penalty to the Waratahs from the breakdown. Foley will kick for posts. He lines up takes the shot and nails it.

30.00: The Highlanders get the ball into the Waratahs 22 with a maul. They press forward and threaten the Tahs tryline but then get called back for a penalty. Sopoaga will take the shot at the posts.

31.00: Sopoaga nails the kick and reduces the deficit a little.

35.00: Both teams still full of attack. The Highlanders keep attacking but the Highlanders are keeping them in the middle of the field.

36.00: Penalty to the Highlanders for hands in the ruck. Sopoaga will take a shot at the posts.

38.00: Sopoaga’s kick just sneaks over the cross bar. It’s a two point game.

39.00; The Waratahs start to threaten in the Blues half after a break by Nick Phipps but they are pushed into touch.

40.00: The siren sounds for half time. It is half time.

The Waratahs kick off and we are underway. The Waratahs have brought big Will Skelton on.

41.00: The Highlanders try to run the ball out of their 22 but a poor pass goes to Ben Smith and he knocks on in front of the posts 5m out.

42.0: The Waratahs win the scrum and they us the inside ball to Israel Folau and he busts through three tackles and sco
