Crusaders beat Blues in Christchurch

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Crusaders and the Blues the Canterbury based Crusaders have won three and lost two.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Blues kick off and we are underway.

0.30: Jimmy Tupou knocks the ball on after the restart so the Blues have a scrum. Tupou was a late replacement for Sam Whitelock.

2.00: The Blues win the scrum and attack until they knock on.

3.00: The Crusaders win their scrum and send the ball out to Nadolo who busts through three tackles and gets the Crusaders into the Blues 22.

6.00: The Blues sustain a period of pressure from the Crusaders and keep them out.

The Blues get some attacking time in the Crusaders half but the Crusaders defence holds them out.

10.00: Penalty to the Crusaders for playing the ball on the ground.

11.00: Colin Slade takes the kick and nails it.

12.00: After the restart the Blues win a penalty back for a high tackle by Dan Carter on Charles Piutau. They kick for touch.

13.00: The Blues win the line out and start working the ball through the forwards into the Crusaders 22. We get called back for a penalty against Colin Slade.

14.00: Ihaia West takes the penalty kick and nails it to level the scores.

16.00: The Crusaders manage to stretch the Blues in their 22 as Matt Todd slips a pass out to Nemani Nadolo who races in for the opening TRY in the corner. The TMO checks and the try is awarded.

17.00: Slade misses the conversion.

19.00: Oh boy. The Crusaders (Crotty) slice through the Blues defence, they get the ball to Dominic Bird who almost gets to the line but is stopped short. The Crusaders go wide fast with a long pass and Frank Halai intercepts almost on the Blues try line and races the length of the field and scores. TRY. No doubt that the Crusaders would have scored there if he hadn’t intercepted.

20.00: West slots the conversion and the Blues lead.

22.00: The Crusaders are slicing through the Blues primary defence. The last line of defence is scrambling and keeping them out.

23.00: The Crusaders have had 66% possession so far but it feels like a lot more. They continue to attack the Blues in their 22. It’s relentless and the Blues are really being stretched. Penalty to the Crusaders about 10m out.

24.00: Slade will take the shot for posts with the penalty as the Crusaders are trailing. He takes the shot and nails it. The Crusaders lead.

27.00: The Blues get the ball into the Crusaders 22. They win a line out and try to suck the Crusaders in with a maul. That disintegrates and they use the pick and go edging forward. The Blues stab the ball through and Dagg gets to it and boots it out.

28.00:The Blues are getting into the game a lot more now. They have the ball in the Crusaders 22 and then Ryan Crotty joins the maul from the side so the Blues have a penalty.

30.00: West slots the penalty and the Blues lead again.

33.00: The Crusaders work the ball into the Blues half but they are held out of the Blues 22.

36.00: Penalty to the Crusaders from a Blues defensive scrum. Slade takes the shot but misses.

37.00: The Crusaders win another penalty for a tackler not releasing. It’s almost on the half way line so they go for touch.

38.00: The Crusaders win the line out but knock on and concede a scrum so the Blues get the put in.

39.00: Penalty from the scrum again as Charlie Faumuina folded in. The Crusaders get another shot at the posts. Slade will kick into the wind.

40.00: Slade misses. The siren sounds for half time.

It’s half time.
