Cowan hopes to make Super Rugby return in 2015

Former All Blacks and Highlanders halfback Jimmy Cowan is on his way back New Zealand with the goal of playing Super Rugby in 2015.

The former All Black half back played for the Barbarians on the weekend and will play against a South African side for a World XV this weekend.

Cowan has spent the last two years playing in England for Gloucester and hopes that he will be able to get some game time in the NPC.

Fifty-one cap All Black Cowan played 100 Super Rugby matches for the Highlanders over 10 years and has also played 100 games in 13 seasons for Southland.

Cowan says that although he is on his way back to New Zealand he has no club or province lined up.

“I’ve got nothing on the immediate horizon,” Cowan told AAP.

“It’s quite scary to be fair. It’s all of a sudden hit me that my career’s coming towards an end.

“I’m 32, I’ve had a pretty good run; I’ve played 14 years at the top.”

“I still think I’ve got two good years left in me, but I won’t make any concrete plans, we’ll just see what the next three months hold.”
