Hurricanes beat Chiefs in Wellington

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Wellington based Hurricanes and the Hamilton based Chiefs the Hurricanes have won one, drawn one and lost three matches.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Hurricanes kick off and we are underway.

2.00: The Chiefs get a little ball but look the more dangerous with it. Michael Fitzgerald is tackled early so the Chiefs have a penalty.

3.00: Gareth Anscombe takes the penalty kick and nails it. The Chiefs lead.

4.00: The Hurricanes break out as Julian Savea gets through the Chiefs, he passes to Andre Taylor “flat pass” who races away to score. TRY!

5.00: Beaden Barrett slots the conversion.

8.00: The Chiefs put the Hurricanes line under some real pressure. They almost get over but they are kept out. Scrum 5m out.

10.00: The Hurricanes win the scrum and Barrett runs across the back of the posts and kicks for touch. He finds it outside of their 22.

14.00: The Chiefs are camped in the Hurrricanes 22. They go through phase after phase and then they stretch the Hurricanes and Liam Squire goes over. TRY!

15.00: The conversion is missed.

18.00: The Hurricanes earn the put in for a scrum inside their half but outside their 22. They win the scrum and run the ball to 6m out.

19.00: The Chiefs scramble in defence as the Hurricanes get to 2m out. The Canes go wide and pass out to Ben Franks who scores TRY! Created by the backs and finished by the forwards.

21.00: Barrett takes the conversion kick and slots it perfectly from out wide.

23.00: Barrett slips through the Chiefs and passes to Cory Jane but he gets surrounded and has no one to pass to. He goes to ground and concedes a penalty. They kick for touch.

25.00: The Chiefs get the ball to the Hurricanes 22m line. They use the pick and go to make more ground.

26.00: The Hurricanes win a penalty so the Hurricanes kick for touch. They win a line out and TJ Perenara clears the ball but it stays in play and the Chiefs attack.

27.00: The Chiefs run the ball back at the Hurricanes but when they get into the 22 they knock on.

29.00: Alapati Leiua slips through the Chiefs defence, he takes Julian Savea with him and Savea races away to score. TRY!

30.00: Barrett takes the conversion kick and nails it.

33.00: The Chiefs get the ball into the Hurricanes 22. The passing is too loose and Bundee Aki knocks on.

37.00: The Chiefs continue to attack but their handling lets them down.

39.00: Bundee Aki makes a break but the he gets isolated and the ball is knocked on.

40.00: The siren sounds. The ball goes into touch. That’s it. Half time.

The Chiefs kick off and we are underway for the second half.

41.00: The Chiefs make a good start but the passing is loose and Conrad Smith comes away with the ball.

42.00: The Hurricanes get the ball down into the Chiefs half and they win a penalty. Andre Taylor goes down in a tackle and looks to have hurt his ankle badly. He will be stretchered off. Looks bad. The game resumes and the Hurricanes kick for touch.

45.00: The Hurricanes press the Chiefs back to their 5m line. They drive for the line with the maul but the Chiefs steal the ball and then take it into touch. 5m line out.

46.00: The Hurricanes win the line out. They go from side to side but can’t get through. Sam Cane puts his hands in the ruck so the Hurricanes have a penalty. The Chiefs get a warning.

47.00: Barrett slots the penalty. Aaron Cruden is about to come on.

49.00: Cruden is on. The Hurricanes spread the ball wide after a scrum. Jane passes out to Savea on the wing and he runs in for his second TRY! The Bonus point TRY!

50.00: Barrett slots the conversion.
