Crusaders beat Highlanders in Dunedin

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Dunedin based Highlanders and the Christchurch based Crusaders the Christchurch side have won three and lost two.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Highlanders kick off and we are underway.

1.00: The Crusaders make a solid start and look like they have come to play.

2.00: The Crusaders run the ball at every opportunity. Dagg attacks down the wing and is stopped but the Highlanders concede a penalty. Slade will kick for posts.

3.00: Colin Slade takes the kick but misses.

5.00: The Crusaders win a scrum on the Highlanders 22 line. They go through several phases and get the ball out to the wing but then Johnny McNicholl loses the ball forward with an open try line ahead.

8.00: The Crusaders win a scrum and spread the ball wide again. This time McNicholl sucks in a defender and passes out to Nemani Nadolo who goes over in the corner. However we go to the TMO who sees that the final pass was forward. No try. 5m scrum.

9.00: The Highlanders win a penalty from the scrum and kick for touch. Crusaders win the line out and attack again. They get the ball into the Highlanders 22 and its all Crusaders attack again.

10.00: The Highlanders turn the ball over and they kick it into touch.

11.00: The Crusaders win the line out and go side to side on attack and then Jordan Taufua goes over for the first TRY! That has been relentless from the Crusaders.

12.00: Slade adds the conversion. The first 12 minutes was almost entirely Crusaders attack deep in Highlanders territory.  

14.00:The Highlanders get some rare ball and Malakaiu Fekitoa has a run but is caught. The Crusaders concede a penalty so Lima Sopoaga will kick for posts.

15.00: Sopoaga takes the kick but misses.

19.00: The Crusaders win a scrum but Aaron Smith gets a boot to the ball after the Crusaders fumble the ball and they chase the ball.

21.00: The Highlanders get the ball and attack but the Crusaders concede a penalty. The Highlanders kick for touch and the 5m line out. They win the line out and attack on the 5m line. The whistle goes for a penalty and a fight breaks out. Everyone piles in. When it dies down Richie McCaw is yellow carded. Highlanders choose the scrum.

23.00: The Highlanders win the scrum and attack. Sopoaga almost gets through but they recycle. They go again and this time Ged Robinson bashes over. TRY!

25.00:Lima Sopoaga takes the conversion but misses from almost in front.

27.00: The Highlanders start their attack on the half way line, Aaron Smith sets up Fekitoa who passes out to Patrick Osborne who shows real pace down the wing and scores a fantastic try for the Highlanders. TRY!

28.00: Sopoaga slots the conversion from the touchline.

31.00: The Highlanders another line out and Fekitoa busts through again. He is stopped and the ball is turned over. The Crusaders attack for a little bit and then the Highlanders turn the ball over until there is a knock on. McCaw comes back on.

35.00: The Crusaders have the ball and they go through the phases but the Highlanders just push them across the field and into touch.

38.00: Penalty to the Crusaders. Slade lines up the kick and nails it.

39.00:The whistle goes for a penalty to the Crusaders on the halfway  line. A fight breaks out again. We go to the TMO to check. Jarrad Hoeata has a go on McCaw but nothing comes of it. The teams get a warning for off the ball stuff. The penalty stands and Slade kicks for the corner.

40.00: The Crusaders win the line out. They use the maul but the whistle goes as it was broken up. It’s half time.

40.01:The Crusaders kick off and we are underway with the second half.
