Fruean close to returning to Super Rugby

Chiefs coach Dave Rennie has confirmed that midfielder Robbie Fruean is edging closer to returning to playing Super Rugby for the champions.

Rennie says that Fruean played a full game of club rugby last weekend and is working his way back to full fitness after a heart procedure in March.

While Rennie was positive he was cautious about assessing where Fruean is at physically.

“Obviously he got through 80 minutes on the week and whether we deem that as enough to be in contention for this week, we’ll know by Thursday,” Rennie told NewstalkZB.

Rennie expects to have Aaron Cruden Charlie Ngatai and Asaeli Tikoirotuma all fit and ready to face the Hurricanes this weekend.
