Waratahs beat Lions in Sydney

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Waratahs and the Johannesburg based Lions the New South Wales side have won all five.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Lions kick off and we are underway.

2.00: The Waratahs make a strong start to the match as they get the ball into the Lions 22. They go through phase after phase edging forward and drive over the line but they are held up.

4.00: The Waratahs win the scrum and suck the Lions defence in and then they go wide and Hooper passes to Horne who scores in the corner. However there was a forward pass so no try.

5.00: The Lions win the scrum and pass back to Marnitz Boshoff who clears to the half way line. The Waratahs run it straight back into the Lions half but lose the ball forward in the tackle before they get to the 22.

8.00: The Waratahs continue to send wave after wave of attack at the Lions. It’s all the Waratahs. They go to the left, then to the right and then Bernard Foley slips through and scores under the posts. TRY!

10.00: Foley takes the conversion kick and slots it.

12.00: The Lions hit back straight away. They win a line out and set up the rolling maul. They drive over the line and Jaco Kriel scores. TRY!

13.00: Boshoff slots the conversion and the scores are level. Lionel Mapoe has been replaced.

17.00: The Lions press the Waratahs back in their 22 but then Foley boots the ball well downfield. The Lions kick the ball back but fail to make as much ground and the Waratahs get to run the ball into the Lions 22. The Waratahs win a penalty for not releasing. They will kick for posts.

18.00: Foley slots the penalty and the Waratahs lead.

20.00: The Lions win a penalty straight back from the scrum. Boshoff will kick for posts.

21.00: Boshoff takes the kick and nails it to level the scores again.

24.00: As the Waratahs go on the attack in the Lions 22 Foley chips the ball and Kurtley Beale picks up the ball and scores. TRY!

24.00: Foley slots the conversion.

25.00: Boshoff goes for a drop goal from 52m but hits the crossbar.

30.00:The Lions pick up a loose ball and run it at the Waratahs. The Waratahs get back to defend but the Lions make half the field.

31.00: The Lions win a line out on the Waratahs 22 and then they win a penalty for offside. Boshoff will kick for posts.

32.00: Boshoff slots the penalty.

33.00: The Lions win a penalty from 52 m out. Boshoff takes the kick but misses.

34.00: The Lions win another penalty for not releasing. They take the quick tap and chip the ball ahead.

35.00: The Waratahs get back to defend and after a few phases of play the Lions force Beale into touch 5m out.

36.00: The Lions win the line out and use the maul. That wins them another penalty so they kick for touch again.

38.00: The Lions win the line out, chip through but Beale gets back and saves the try.

39.00: The Waratahs restart and after a kicking contest the Waratahs win a penalty. They kick for touch as the siren sounds.

40.00: The Waratahs thow in is not straight so it’s half time.

The half time score was Waratahs 17 Lions 13 

The Waratahs kick off and we are underway with the second half.

42.00: The Waratahs go through the phases on attack in the Lions half. They make slow but steady progress.

43.00: Rob Horne slips off a tackle and races for the posts and scores. TRY!

44.00: Foley slots the conversion.

46.00: Paddy Ryan comes off for the Waratahs.

47.00: The Waratahs (Folau) breaks out and races down the wing, he passes to Matt Carraro who shows some pace but the Lions scramble and get back. Deon van Rensburg is yellow carded for foul play at the breakdown. The Waratahs kick for touch but the Lions defend and
