Chiefs beat Lions in Hamilton

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Chiefs and the Lions the Chiefs have won four and the Lions have won one.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Chiefs kick off and we are underway.

1.00: The Lions kick the ball out after the restart. The ball hits the cameraman but still goes out. The Chiefs win the line out but concede a penalty so the Lions have a penalty.

2.00: The Lions kick for touch and set up the line out. They win the line out and use the maul. Faf de Klerk peals off the maul but is pushed into touch.

3.00: The Chiefs win a free kick after the line out. They kick upfield, The Lions try to run the ball out but their passing is loose and the ball is intercepted and the Chiefs strike in the corner. Lionel Mapoe saves the try though with a big tackle.

5.00: The Chiefs are playing the game in the Lions 22. They do however concede a penalty so the Lions kick for touch.

6.00: The Lions shown that they have come to play. Mapoe has a run and chips ahead. Deon Van Rensburg chips it further ahead and the Chiefs have to get back and dot the ball down for a 5m scrum.

7.00: The Lions win a penalty from the scrum. Elton Jantjies will kick for posts.

8.00: Jantjies slots the penalty and the Lions lead.

12.00: The Chiefs are making some breaks in attack but the Lions keep scrambling in defence.

13.00: Chrysander Botha takes a knock in a tackle and goes down. He has to come off for a concussion test so Marnitz Boshoff comes on. The Lions have a penalty and even though Boshoff is on Jantjies takes the shot.

14.00: Jantjies takes the kick but misses.

15.00: News comes from the sidelines that Botha has failed the concussion test so Boshoff will stay on. The Lions win a scrum and kick ahead but the Chiefs get a boot to the ball and it goes out.

19.00: The Chiefs kick the ball through the Lions and Jantjies goes for the ball, drops it and knocks it back and then gets pushed into touch.

20.00: The Chiefs win the line out and attack in the Lions 22. It’s slow as the Lions defence is solid.

22.00: The Chiefs go through 12 phases and get to the 5m line. They pass the ball back to Gareth Anscombe who powers over. TRY!

23.00: Anscombe slots the conversion and the Chiefs lead.

25.00: Penalty to the Chiefs. Anscombe takes the kick but misses from in front.

29.00: The Chiefs get the ball just outside the Lions 22 from a ruck, Kerr-Barlow passes to Nathan Harris outside the Lions 22 and races for the line to score a great TRY. However the try is disallowed as there was obstruction. Penalty Lions.

30.00: The Lions kick for touch and the line out.

31.00: After a phase of play for the Lions the Chiefs have a line out but it’s not straight. We go to a scrum.

33.00: The Chiefs are caught offside at the scrum so Jantjies kicks for touch.

34.00: The Chiefs try to attack from their half but they knock on. We go back for a scrum.

37.00: The Lions kick for touch which gives the Chiefs the line out. The Chiefs run hard at the Lions. Charlie Ngatai makes a big break and passes around a Lions player. The Chiefs pick up the ball and Tanerau Latimer scores. Or does he ? We go to the TMO. The TRY is awarded.

38.00: Anscombe misses the conversion.

39.00:The Chiefs go on the attack again in the Lions 22. They get to the 5m line and the ball pops out and Ngatai chases and pounces to score. We go to the TMO again to check. The TRY is awarded.

40.00: Anscombe slots the conversion.
