Owen Franks extends with NZRU & Crusaders

All Blacks and Crusaders prop Owen Franks has signed a contract with the New Zealand Rugby Union that will keep him in New Zealand through to the next British and Irish Lions tour.

Franks will continue to play rugby in New Zealand for the Crusaders until after the British and Irish Lions tour in 2017.

“It’s great news that we have someone of Owen’s standing in the game re-signing — not only for the Crusaders but for the All Blacks as well,” All Blacks coach Steve Hansen said.

“He’s a world-class player who brings a real physicality to his position.”

Twenty-six-year-old Franks has played 54 tests for the All Blacks and made his debut in 2009.

Franks was part of the All Black squad that won the Rugby World Cup in 2011 beating France in the final.
