Chiefs v Lions Super Rugby Preview

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Chiefs and the Lions the
Chiefs have won four and the Lions have won one.

One of those matches was the famous match in 2010 when 137 points were scored
in an 18 try thriller in Johannesburg. That match was won 72-65 by the Chiefs.

The Chiefs have not played the Lions since 2012 in Pukekohe as the Lions were
relegated for the 2013 season.

Overall the Chiefs have played the Lions 15 times since 1998 and the Chiefs
have won 11 times and lost 4 times. There have been no draws between the teams.

That gives the Chiefs a record of winning 73% of their matches against the
Lions.

The average score across all venues when the Chiefs play the Lions is: Chiefs
33 Lions 28.

This weekend the match will be played in Hamilton which is home for the double
Super Rugby champions. The Chiefs have had home advantage over the Lions on
7 occasions and won all seven matches.

The Chiefs have hosted the Lions just three times in Hamilton and as they have
never lost to the Lions they have a 100% record.

The average score when they play the Lions is Chiefs 38 Lions 17.

The Chiefs will be coming off two losses and have made an incredible 14 changes
for this match. Nine of the changes are to the starting team which is not too
far out of character as they have rotated their squad every week.

The Lions have been very bold in their selections as they have named reserve
playmaker Elton Jantjies in the starting line up. Jantjies made his name playing
for the Lions in the Currie Cup but has never really made the step up to Super
Rugby with as much success.

Warren Whiteley has made a full recovery from injury and will start at eighth
man and will captain the side.

Meanwhile, in the backline, Faf de Klerk has reclaimed his spot in the starting
XV. Deon van Rensburg will return in
the wing position, having recovered from his minor injury.

The Lions have lost their last three matches but this will be their first match
outside of South Africa.

The Bookies
have given the Lions a 14 point start for this Match
– with an
offer of a FREE $250.00 Bet.
Both teams have had stuttering
form in recent weeks but the two time Champions have to be backed at home in
this. The Chiefs should win this comfortably by 20 points.

This Match will be shown on TV in NZ, Aus, SA and in
the UK on Sky Sports 3/HD
