Rebels beat Western Force in Melbourne

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Melbourne Rebels and the Western Force the newcomers to Super Rugby the Rebels have won four and the Force one.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Force kick off and we are underway.

2.00: Both teams testing each other out early on. They both have some runs and they both test the back three with territory kicks.

4.00: Penalty to the Western Force for offside. Ebersohn takes the penalty kick and he nails it.

8.00: The Rebels have the ball on the attack in the Force’s half. They try the chip kick and the ball bounces off a couple of players and goes out. Scrum on the Force’s 22.

11.00: The Rebels are dominating territory in this match so far. The Force kick the ball upfield and the Rebels run it back at them in the Force’s half.

12.00: Penalty to the Rebels in the Force’s half but outside the 22. Woodward will kick for posts.

13.00: Woodward takes the kick and nails it. The scores are level. Possession at 62% for the Rebels.

17.00: The Force are coming back. They work the ball into the Rebels half and win a penalty.

18.00: Ebersohn takes the shot at the posts and nails it.

21.00: The Rebels go through the phases on attack. After 9 phases they almost get to the 5m line but then the Rebels concede a penalty. The Force kick for touch.

23.00: The Rebels continue to attack the Force in their half. After 8 phases the ball goes dead so the Force get the put in at a scrum.

25.00: The Force’s scrum is starting to struggle. They concede a penalty as the front row collapses. The Force look like they are starting to tire from all of the defence. Woodward adds the penalty and the scores are level.

31.00:The Rebels have a scrum in their half. Before it is completed it has to be reset. The Rebels then win a penalty from the scrum again. Hegarty kicks for touch.

33.00: The Rebels win another penalty. This one is for not rolling away. Woodward takes the kick but its short. The Force try to kick the ball out but it goes to the Rebels who kick upfield and the Force take the mark.

38.00: The Force are growing into this match. They do however concede a penalty so the Rebels kick for touch.  

39.00: The Rebels work the ball into the Force’s half but the ball goes dead so the Force have a scrum just inside their 22.

40.00: The siren sounds for half time and the ball goes dead. It is half time.

The Rebels kick off and we are underway with the second half.

42.00: The Rebels win a penalty almost on the half way line so they kick for touch.

43.00: The Rebels want to play the game in the Force’s half. The Rebels win another penalty so Woodward will kick for touch.

44.00: Woodward takes the kick and nails it. The Rebels lead for the first time in the match.

47.00: The Force get the ball and attack. Matt Hodgson almost gets through the defence but is stopped. The Force recycle again and again but they are called back for an advantage and then the penalty.

48.00: The Force take the quick tap. They go for the line but they are stopped.

50.00: The Force continue to bash away at the Rebels tryline but they are held out. The Force win a penalty so Ebersohn takes the kick and nails it.

53.00: Sean McMahon and Luke Burgess have come on for the Rebels. They win yet another penalty from the scrum. Woodward says he will kick for posts again.

55.00: Woodward slots the penalty and the Rebels lead again. The Force’s restart kick (Ebersohn) fails to go more than 10 so we have a scrum on the half way line.

56.00; The Rebels win the scrum and work the ball into the Force’s22. They get up to the 5m line and drive for th
