Chiefs beat Rebels in Hamilton

The Chiefs and the Rebels have only met twice since the Melbourne franchise joined Super Rugby in 2011 and both matches have been won by the Chiefs.

The Chiefs kick off and we are underway.

1.00: The Rebels win an early penalty for not rolling away so they kick for touch.

2.00: The Rebels concede a penalty after they win the line out in a mess. Anscombe lines up for the kick and nails it. The Chiefs lead.

5.00: The Chiefs are playing the game in the Rebels half. Unlike in their last two matches where they have made slow starts they have been all attack so far.

7.00: The Chiefs have the advantage so they kick for the corner but get called back for a penalty. Anscombe takes the kick and again nails it.

11.00:After some time to get set the Rebels complete a scrum and the Chiefs win a penalty from it. The penalty kick is just inside the Rebels half in the middle of the field.

12.00: Anscombe takes the kick from in front but well out. He nails it. Huge kick. Penalty was for offside.

14.00: The Chiefs are full of attack. Anscombe breaks through the Rebels defence in their 22. He is caught and the Chiefs recycle the ball quickly and Michael Fitzgerald powers over the line. TRY!

15.00: Anscombe adds the conversion.

16.00: After the restart the Rebels get some rare time in the Chiefs 22. They win a penalty and instead of going for posts they take the tap and run the ball.

17.00: The Rebels go through about five phases and the Chiefs turn the ball over and kick upfield forcing the Rebels to attack from deep.

21.00: The Rebels attack in the Chiefs half but they concede a penalty so the Chiefs will kick for touch and the line out. Anscombe boots the ball to the Rebels 22.

23.00: Another penalty for the Chiefs. Anscombe lines up on the 22m line. He nails it. Three of the Rebels six penalties have gone against Scott Higginbotham.

26.00: The Rebels work the ball down into the Chiefs 22. They get to the 5m line but start moving sideways and can’t make any further ground. The Chiefs win a penalty and Higginbotham says they will kick for posts.

27.00: Jason Woodward takes the penalty kick and nails it.

30.00: There is a break in play as the players get some water (injury break).

31.00: The Rebels win a scrum in their 22 and they kick for touch but Nic Starkzaker slices it. Territory is at 54% for the Chiefs.

32.00: Brodie Retalick wins the line out and the Chiefs attack. The Chiefs then concede a free kick so the Rebels kick it upfield. The Chiefs run the ball back but knock on.

33.00: The Rebels win a scrum and run the ball. Anscombe gets a boot to the ball and  Bundee Aki chases and almost gets to the ball to score but Stirzaker gets to it and saves a try. The Chiefs then concede a penalty.

34.00: The Rebels run the ball from their 22 and they get to the Chiefs 22 but then they pass to the ball out into touch.

36.00: The Chiefs  win a line out and Pulu slices through the Rebels defence. He has to kick ahead and Woodward takes the ball and attacks, he is caught and the Rebels kick the ball into touch – on the full.

38.00: The Rebels win a scrum just inside the Chiefs half. They run the ball and the Chiefs concede a penalty for going over the top. Higginbotham says they will kick for posts.

39.00: Jason Woodward takes the penalty kick and slots it. It’s half time.

42.00: The Chiefs players get ahead of the kicker as they try to attack so the Rebels win a penalty.
