Waratahs beat Stormers in Cape Town

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Stormers and the Waratahs the Cape Town based Stormers have won three and the Waratahs two.

We are waiting for the kick off.

0.01 : Peter Grant kicks off and we are underway.

2.00: The Waratahs make the stronger start as they work the ball down to the Stormers 22. They put the Stormers under pressure but then knock on.

3.00: The Waratahs are running hard at the Stormers defence in their 22. They win a penalty so the Waratahs kick for the corner and the line out.

5.00: The Stormers have to defend and they manage to get control of the ball and Grant kicks for touch.

7.00: Penalty to the Stormers for not releasing the ball. They kick for touch.

8.00: Juan de Jongh makes a break for the Stormers. The Waratahs defend but the Stormers recycle and continue the attack.

10.00: Penalty to the Stormers for taking a man out in the air. Grant will kick for posts.

11.00:Grant takes shot and nails the penalty off the post.

13.00: The Waratahs catch the Stormers unaware as a ball pops out of the back of the scrum. Nick Phipps pounces on the ball and scores. TRY!

14.00: Bernard Foley takes the conversion and nails it.

18.00; The Stormers work the ball upfield into the Waratahs half. They win a penalty and kick for touch.

20.00: Out of almost nothing Juan de Jongh makes a break and passes to Kobus van Wyk who flies off and scores the Stormers first TRY!

21.00: Peter Grant takes the conversion but misses it.

24.00: The Stormers are playing the game more in the Waratahs half now. They are doing most of the playing. They win a penalty for a high tackle.

25.00: Grant takes the kick and hits the post again and this time it bounces out and the Waratahs run it.

28.00: The Waratahs hold out the Stormers attack in their half. The Stormers are play far more direct this week and with pace.

29.00: The Stormers win a line out on the Waratahs throw but they knock on.  

32.00: The Waratahs work the ball into the Stormers 22 through 8 phases.

33.00: The Waratahs win a penalty in front of the posts.

34.00: Foley slots the penalty and the Waratahs lead.

37.00: The Waratahs are controlling more of the ball now in the Stormers half. They knock on however. Peter Grant gets some help from the medics which holds the game up a little.

38.00: Demetri Catrakilis comes on for Peter Grant.

39.00: The Stormers win a penalty so Jaco Taute will take a shot at the posts. He misses.

The Waratahs kick off and we are underway with the second half.

42.00: The Waratahs work the ball to the Stormers tryline but then Peter Skelton concedes a penalty for going in from the side.

43.00: Michael Rhodes goes off for a concussion test. Peter Grant is back on.

45.00: Penalty to the Waratahs in the Stormers half. Kurtley Beale takes the kick and nails it to extend the lead.

48.00:Peter Betham comes off for the Waratahs. In the next move Alofa Alofa goes down injured and is in pain.

50.00: Penalty to the Waratahs for illegal scrumming by Kitshoff. Bernard Foley takes the kick and nails it.  

51.00: The Stormers win a line out and pass the ball down the line but it goes forward. Waratahs scrum.

54.00: The Stormers get some attacking ball in the Waratahs 22. They get the ball to the 5m line. They have the advantage but continue to press for the line. They use the pick and drive but it’s short.

55.00: Juan de Jongh goes over for the Stormers but the TMO is called in as the referee could not see him go over. Double movement as he used his left knee to propel himself forward. No try.

56.00: We go back
