Chiefs lose prop Afeaki on tour in South Africa

Double Super Rugby champions the Chiefs have lost prop Ben Afeaki for this weekend’s tour match against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein South Africa.

The Chiefs drew with the Bulls in Pretoria on the weekend and will take on the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Twenty-six-year-old Afeaki was a late withdrawal from the team that played the Bulls after he suffered a head knock in training.

Chiefs assistant coach says that they always put the players health first so Afeaki is leaving the tour in South Africa.

The Chiefs played the Crusaders in their season opening match and Afeaki accidentally bashed heads with his team mate Brodie Retallick.

Coach Coventry says that some of the concussion symptoms that had cleared up ahead of the tour have now returned for Afeaki.

Chiefs Wider training squad member Nick Barrett will replace Afeaki in the tour party.
