Romano misses Crusaders flight to South Africa

All Blacks and Crusaders lock has been ruled out of the Crusaders match against the Lions this weekend and has missed the flight to South Africa.

Romano limped off the field in the Crusaders 26-29 loss to the Hurricanes in Christchurch on Friday and as the team left the next day the Crusaders took back-up Jimmy Tupou instead.

The Crusaders have made an awful start to the season having won two matches from five matches and have already lost two matches at home.

The loss of Romano for the Crusaders is a big blow as he is an important part of their line out and is also a strong ball runner.

One bonus for the Crusaders is that captain Kieran Read who left the field early in the loss to the Hurricanes has been cleared to play and made the flight.

The Crusaders play the Lions in Johannesburg this weekend and then play the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein next week.

The seven time champions are last in the New Zealand Conference while the Lions are in fourth place overall.
