Wales lose Halfpenny for South Africa tour in June

Wales fullback Leigh Halfpenny will miss his country’s tour of South Africa in June as he will undergo surgery on his shoulder.

Wales and Cardiff Blues full-back Leigh Halfpenny dislocated his right shoulder against England on Sunday in the Six Nations when he put in a try saving tackle on Luther Burrell.

Halfpenny was immediately replaced in the match and had to be helped from the field.

The British and Irish Lions star will have surgery on Friday this week and is expected to be out of rugby for up to four month ruling him out of the South African tour.

A medical report from the Wales Rugby Union also said that Ospreys scrum half Rhys Webb has been released from the National Squad following the ankle injury he sustained playing against England.

The WRU said that Webb will will continue to be assessed by the Ospreys medical team.
