Bulls beat Blues in Pretoria

Both the Bulls and the Blues won their first Super Rugby match last weekend at their respective home venues and both will be looking to keep the momentum.

Match detail

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Blues kick off and we are underway. The Blues are in white and the Bulls in Blue.

1.00: The Blues make a strong start to the match. They win the ball back from the kick off and start their attack in the Bulls half.

2.00: The Blues lose the ball so the Bulls kick upfield. The Blues field the kick and run the ball back at the Bulls.

3.00: The Blues are really testing the Bulls defence. They go wide and it takes three to get the Blues out. The Bulls then win the line out and kick for touch.

4.00: The Bulls enjoy to possession and immediately show that they too can be dangerous. They run the ball from their 22 to the Blues 22 through 7 phases including one from new centurion Akona Ndungane.

5.00: 9 Phases and then Akona Ndungane passes too quickly for Callie Visagie and the ball goes out. The try also goes begging. We go back for a Bulls knock on.

6.00: The Scrum collapses. Looked like Blues front row went down. It will be reset. The Bulls hook the ball and it pops out of the back of the scrum for the Bulls and Jacques-Louis Potgieter runs sideways and beats two Blues defenders and goes over to score. TRY!

7.00: Jacques-Louis Potgieter adds the conversion and the Bulls lead.

9.00: Penalty after the restart for the Blues. Simon Hickey will kick for posts. Hickey slots the penalty.

12.00: The Bulls build up their attack and then on the half way line Jacques-Louis Potgieter goes for a drop goal and nails it.

14.00: Penalty again for the Blues. Hickey will take a shot at the posts. He nails it.

18.00: The Bulls knock on after a ruck so the Blues have a scrum in their half. The Bulls however win a penalty from the scrum. They will kick for posts.

19.0: Potgieter slots the penalty. He now has a full house in this match.

21.00: The Bulls again concede a penalty shortly after the restart so Hickey has another shot at the posts.

22.00: Hickey takes the shot and curls it in.

23.00: The Bulls start to build their attack but then after three phases there is a knock on from the Blues.

24.00: Free kick from the scrum. The Blues take it quickly.

25.00: The Blues go through 10 phases on attack. They get to the Bulls 22 and the attack slows. The Bulls then drive them back a little. 15 phases and on they go. Intercept form Ndungane but he is caught and the Bulls chip ahead and then the Blues take the ball out.

27.00: There appears to be a knock on from the Bulls so everyone stops but Jono Ross who races through and scores a TRY under the posts for the Bulls.

28.00: Potgieter adds the conversion.

30.00: Penalty to the Blues. Hickey will take the shot at posts.

31.00: Hickey lines up, takes the strike and nails another one.

34.00: The Bulls build up their attack on the Blues 22 and they cough the ball up. The Blues press the Bulls back and then Stegmann knocks on.

36.00: The Blues are doing plenty of running in their half but also getting nowhere. Then the Blues break through and Luke Braid chips ahead and there is a chase for the ball. Jan Serfontein wins the race so we have a 22 drop out.

38.00: The Bulls attack in the Blues 22, they get to 5m out but are just kept short. The Bulls go at the line again and again.

39.00: Serfontein slips off a tackle and scores. TRY!

40.00: Potgieter takes the conversion kick from almost the touchline and misses this one.

It’s half time.
