Stormers beat Hurricanes in Cape Town

Out of the last five matches between the Stormers and the Hurricanes the Cape Town based franchise have won four and lost once.

We are waiting for the kick off. Schalk Burger has withdrawn from the Stormers squad. Burger did not recover sufficiently from the groin strain sustained last weekend. Deon Fourie comes in at 6, Siya Kolisi moves to 7 and Liebenberg comes onto the replacments bench.

0.01: The Hurricanes kick off and we are underway.

1.00: The Stormers have to absorb some early pressure as the Hurricanes press them backwards after the kick off.

2.00: The Hurricanes win their opening line out but the handling lets them down and they knock on (Beauden Barrett).

3.00: The first scrum of the match is won by the Stormers although it’s not clean. The Stormers try to clear the ball but it’s charged down and goes out.

4.00: The Hurricanes have the Stormers pinned back in their 22. There is an injury break as a player is down injured. It looks like John Schwalger fell awkwardly. He carries on.

5.00: Penalty to the Stormers in their 22 for cleaning out. Aplon takes the kick and finds touch. The Stormers win their line out and drive over the half way line.

6.00: Penalty to the Stormers. Catrakilis will kick for posts.

7.00: Catrakilis takes the kick and nails it. The Stormers lead.

9.00: Stormers pack weight 892kg Hurricanes 891. The Stormers scrum collapses but they get another put in.

11.00: Both sides give the ball some air but then the Hurricanes knock on.

13.00: The Stormers get into the Hurricanes half with a line out but then they knock on. The Hurricanes scrum collapses so they have to reset.

14.00: Penalty from the scrum against Kitshoff to the Hurricanes for collapsing. The Hurricanes kick for touch.

16.00: Penalty again for the Hurricanes. They take it quickly but can’t really make much ground and then the Stormers turn the ball over and the Hurricanes fail to release the tackler so they concede a penalty. Aplon kicks for touch.

18.00: The Stormers attack is starting to work. They get into the Hurricanes 22. They drive forward and get to the 5m line after 7 phases.

19.00:  Penalty to the Stormers in front of the posts. Catrakilis takes the kick and nails it.

21.00: The Stormers almost get through after the restart but Deon Fourie loses the ball forward.

23.00: Penalty to the Hurricanes against Cory Jane in the Canes 22. The Stormers kick for touch. The line out is not clean and the Hurricanes snatch the ball and kick it out.

27.00: The Stormers have the ball in the Hurricanes half but is goes dead. The game is paused though as Hadleigh Parkes gets some help from the medics. He carries on.

28.00: The Stormers win their scrum and Kobus van Wyk  races through a gap. The Hurricanes just manage to stop him and the Stormers concede a penalty. Barrett kicks for touch.

30.00: The Hurricanes work  the ball into the Stormers half but as they get to the  22m line they knock on.

33.00: The Hurricanes get the ball in broken play and Cory Jane dabs the ball ahead for Julian Savea who goes in for the ball and scores. TRY! That was set up by Conrad Smith.

34.00: Barrett takes the conversion and nails it. The Hurricanes lead.

35.00: Penalty to the Hurricanes. They kick for touch and get back down in the Stormers 22.

37.00: The Hurricanes put the Stormers under pressure in their 22 and they stretch the defence by going wide fast with a long pass and Cory Jane catches the ball and slides over. TRY!

39.00: Barrett takes the conversion from outwide but stabs it and misses.

40.00: The siren sounds. The ball goes out. It’s half time.
