Wales lose Williams for rest of Six Nations

Wales centre Scott Williams has been ruled out of the rest of the Six Nations Championship as he will undergo surgery on the right shoulder he injured in the loss to Ireland last weekend.

The Welsh Rugby Union confirmed on Wednesday that Williams was released from the squad for “surgical intervention.”

His Scarlets club say the surgery on his AC joint is expected to sideline him for three months, meaning he will miss the rest of the season.

Williams was hurt making a first-half tackle on Irish opposite Brian O’Driscoll, and came off soon after in the 26-3 loss in Dublin.

Wales had already summoned Ospreys centre Ashley Beck as midfield cover for Williams and Jonathan Davies, who was still recovering from a pulled chest muscle against South Africa in November.

Wales host France next in nine days.
