Lions to name 2014 Super Rugby squad

The Golden Lions have announced that they will name their 2014 Super Rugby squad on Thursday the 30th of January.

The Lions were relegated from Super Rugby in 2013 but beat the Southern Kings in a promotion/relegation play off series and regained their place in Super Rugby.

It is widely expected that the Southern Kings will return to Super Rugby in 2016 when the format is expected to change and they could be back sooner if they can beat the Lions in this year’s promotion/relegation play offs.

The Lions started their first Super Rugby training session of the new year on Monday and have three Super Rugby warm up matches planned before their return.

The Lions will play the Cheetahs in the Super Rugby season opening match on
February the 15 in Bloemfontein.

The Lions 2014 Super Rugby warm-up fixtures:

24 January: Lions vs Leopards (Ellis Park Stadium)
01 February: Kings vs Lions (Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium)
07 February: Lions vs Sharks (Ellis Park Stadium)
