Heineken Cup champion Toulon’s South African scrum-half Michael Claassens will miss the next six weeks of rugby after breaking a bone in his left hand.
Toulon kicked off the defence of their Heineken Cup title with a 51-28 hammering of Glasgow in Toulon on Sunday.
The injury occured in the 45th minute of Sunday’s match against Glasgow.
Classens joined Toulon in the summer from English Premiership Rugby club Bath where he spent six seasons.
The injury means that the eight cap Springbok will miss this Saturday’s Heineken Cup match against Cardiff as well as the high-profile Top 14 clash with Toulouse on October the 26th.
Toulon won the Heineken Cup last season but then lost the Top 14 final to Castres and they are now on joint first place on 27 points with Toulouse and Montpellier.
