Harlequins cruise to victory over Worcester Warriors

Harlequins eased to a 13-37 Aviva Premiership victory and gave Worcester Warriors their third straight loss of the new season on Friday.

Harlequins produced a brilliant display of 15-man rugby to destroy Warriors
and get back to winning ways.

Conor O’Shea’s side recovered from going behind to an early Ignacio Mieres
penalty to totally dominate the contest thereafter.

Worcester played the first hour of the match a man down after their ill-discipline
and desperation to keep on-song Harlequins at bay saw them lose Jake Abbott,
Ed Shervington and Sam Matavesi to the sin-bin.

Matavesi’s return to the field inspired something of a Worcester comeback as
the match approached the final quarter, but the Warriors were well beaten by
then by a Harlequins outfit that looked to offload at every opportunity.

The only surprise in a thoroughly one-sided first half was that it took half
an hour before the Londoners breached the Worcester defence.

With a minute left on Abbott’s sin-binning, Chris Robshaw’s fed Danny Care
and the scrum-half sped home from 35 metres to score under the posts with 30
minutes on the clock.

Care’s score and Nick Evans’ subsequent conversion made it 13-6 with Evans
having earlier kicked two penalties following Mieres’s initial strike.

A rampant Joe Marler burrowed over from close range to cap a fine first half
display with a try. Evans added the extras to make the half-time score 20-6
to Quins.

Worcester started the second period with 14 men after Shervington had been
yellow-carded three minutes before the break.

And Quins wasted no time scoring their third try, Mike Brown’s quick hands
putting hooker Rob Buchanan away in the corner.

Evans kicked the touchline conversion and then added the extras to a Brown
try on 49 minutes to put the result beyond any doubt.

Quins lost replacement prop Mark Lambert to a yellow-card on 63 minutes and
Worcester made the extra man count when they were awarded a penalty try by referee
Wayne Barnes following repeated infringements.
