George Lowe has re-signed with Harlequins

Former Aviva Premiership Rugby champions Harlequins have anncounced that George Lowe has signed an extension to his contract which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2015/16 season.

The centre has made over 100 appearances for the south-west London club, having made his debut in September 2009 against London Wasps. He came through the Harlequins Academy and graduated into the senior squad in 2008.

He has since scored 24 tries. In his second full season for the club he was shortlisted for the Land Rover Discovery of the Season Award and in 2011/12 he played an important part in Harlequins’ success in lifting the Aviva Premiership starting in the victory against Leicester Tigers in the final at Twickenham.

In 2009 he represented England U20s during the Six Nations and Junior World Championships and in 2012 he was called up for England’s tour to South Africa where he started against the Southern Barbarians.

Harlequins Director of Rugby Conor O’Shea said: “People will probably ask to check his birth certificate when they hear that George is still only 23 and has already played over 100 times for the club, starting in the XVs that have won the Amlin Challenge in 2011, the Aviva Premiership in 2012 and the LV= Cup in 2013.

“He has incredible experience for someone of his age and in that respect he is now maturing as a player. This experience, coupled with George’s physical capabilities, should see him move his game on to another level in the coming years. It is really exciting for everyone here at Harlequins knowing what he can achieve, and that he wants to commit to doing it here with this club is a great thing.”

Lowe added: “As soon as I was offered a new contract at Harlequins I knew I was going to stay. I have grown up at this club and know all the players and coaching staff really well, so it was a very easy decision to make.

“It’s always an honour to wear the Harlequins shirt and I’m looking forward to achieving more with this group of players over the coming seasons.”
