Strauss proud of Cheetahs despite loss to Brumbies

Cheetahs captain Adriaan Strauss says that he is proud of his team after they pushed the Brumbies to edge but lost 15-13 in their Super Rugby qualifying final in Canberra.

The Cheetahs were never more than a converted try away from the Brumbies and in the final minute scored the second try of the match and could have levelled the scores with the conversion to force the contest into extra time.

The Cheetahs were playing in their first ever Super Rugby finals match but had taken confidence from the fact that they had beaten all of their Australian opponents in the regular season.

“Obviously we’re really disappointed to lose tonight,” captain Adriaan Strauss said.

“But I’m still proud of the guys.

“We had a much better season this year and that’s something we can definitely build on for the future.

“I was very confident in Riaan (to kick the final goal).”

“I thought he had a great kick and I thought it was over but that was unfortunate for us tonight.”
