Kings suffer major blow for relegation play off

The Southern Kings have suffered a major blow for their Super Rugby promotion/relegation match against the Lions as Andries Strauss has been ruled out.

Vice Captain Strauss broke his hand in training this morning and he joins Captain Luke Watson on the sidelines.

The Kings had stepped up their preparations for the promotion/relegation match but will now be without one of their best players and leaders.

Strauss tweeted that his season was over due to the break in his hand.

“Broke my hand in training today, gutted to have to end my season on the sideline,” said Strauss on Twitter.

“Big couple of weeks ahead,” he added.

The Southern Kings will now most likely play one of Ronnie Cooke, Hadleigh Parkes or Waylon Murray in the centre as replacement for Strauss.

Either one of Steven Sykes or Darron Nell will most likely take over the captaincy.

Sykes captained the Kings in their last Super Rugby match which was against the Sharks in Durban.
