Sharks confirm new Currie Cup coaching panel

The Sharks have confirmed that former Sharks forward Brad Macleod-Henderson and current junior level boss Sean Everitt have been given coaching roles at the union for the Currie Cup.

Macleod-Henderson has been appointed forwards coach, while Everitt will be in charge of the backs, with both working under the new director of rugby Brendan Venter in a new coaching structure, which was announced last month.

“It’s a great opportunity, a great honour and something I’m really looking forward to,” Macleod-Henderson, who was coach at Hilton College, said.

“We get going next week with the players, we will maintain things that have worked well, look to simplify things a bit and make sure that everyone understands one hundred percent what their roles and responsibilities are and create an environment where the players are happy and can play their best rugby.”

Everitt has coached at Under-19, Under-21 and VC level at the Sharks.

“It’s a very exciting opportunity for me, it’s going to be challenging, but that’s what coaching is all about,” Everitt said.

“Obviously it’s everyone’s ambition to get to the top and being involved with the Sharks now is a realisation of that goal. I’m looking forward to working with some of the guys I worked with in the past.”

Details of their contracts have not been mentioned and it is not clear whether they will also be in charge of the Sharks in Super Rugby.

The pair replace former assistants Hugh Reece-Edwards and Grant Bashford after they ended their association with the union at the weekend, following former coach John Plumtree out of Kings Park.

The restructuring was done by new chief executive John Smit, who moved into the hotseat at the start of July.

The Sharks also confirmed that Bulls Under-19 coach Paul Anthony will join the coaching team at the end of 2013.
