Hurricanes sign Matu’u & Proctor for two seasons

The Hurricanes have signed hooker Motu Matu’u and wing Matt Proctor for the next two Super Rugby seasons.

Matu’u has been a back up player for All Black Dane Coles after making his debut for the franchise in 2012 on a one year contract.

Nineteen-year-old Proctor has extended his contract after a promising debut season which saw him making three starts and his first Super Rugby try.

Proctor who can also play at fullback, has also signed for Wellington in the ITM Cup for the next two years and will be a Lions provincial squad according to Fairfax.

The Hurricanes were troubled with hooker injuries in 2013 and with both Coles and Matu’u being injured for much of the season the Hurricanes played Hawke’s Bay wider training group member Ash Dixon more than the incumbents.

Coles only managed to feature for the Hurricanes in six matches due to a broken cheekbone and calf troubles.

Matu’u started in five Super Rugby matches while Dixon made six starts and a further six appearances off the bench.
