Bulls lose Mapoe for the Super Rugby season

Bulls outside back Lionel Mapoe will miss the remainder of the Super Rugby season due to a shoulder injury he sustained playing last week.

The versatile back sustained the injury on Saturday during the Bulls 25-30 Super Rugby victory over the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

Bulls team doctor, Org Strauss says that Mapoe will be out for at least six to eight weeks, but if operated upon, could miss the rest of the season.

“Lionel will see a specialist on Tuesday, who will decide what the next step is. He had a scan today which showed some damage.”

There was good news for Francois Venter though, as the midfielder, who had a groin operation, will be fit once the squad assemble again.

The rest of the injury list is:

Paul Willemse (7 weeks, knee)
Cornell Hess (6 months, knee)
Wiaan Liebenberg (three weeks, shoulder)
Akona Ndungane (1 week, back)
